Lakecrest Park Playground update
The Lakecrest Park Playground remains closed to the public. We understand the frustration this has caused, and we greatly appreciate your patience! Project update as of Nov. 16, 2022: Construction is currently on hold as the City works with its project partners to ensure the playground equipment and structures meet current code and safety standards. This process requires a structural engineer to review and approve the technical specifications of the playground. As soon as approval is received, the City is ready to proceed in partnership with the contractor to resume and complete construction as soon as possible. Project Background - Construction of the playground was stopped by the City in late June when it was determined the soil on site needed further evaluation to ensure the structural integrity of the playground. In the first phase of this process, the City paid to have a geotechnical report, or a soil analysis, performed. The next phase, which the project is currently in, involves a thorough review of the manufacturer’s specifications in conjunction with the findings of the soil analysis. This process is taking longer than we anticipated, but the entire team is working hard to ensure the swiftest resolution. Other steps in the timeline to open the playground include: Safety audit and code compliance check. Contractor punch list completion. Acceptance of the work by the City. Open the playground. Safety will always be our number one priority, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding throughout this project. For more information, please submit a request through Ask Arvada.

Lakecrest Park Playground Renovation
Playground currently under construction and not open to the public. Safety is the City's #1 priority. For your safety, please do not access the playground until the construction fencing is removed. An unforeseen challenge has delayed the construction of the Lakecrest playground and we are unable to open it until steps have been taken to ensure the safety and structural stability of the play equipment. The first step to ensure safety and stability is to complete soil testing. Soil testing was completed on 8/29. The findings from the soil test will be used in a structural review of the footings. Based on the structural review, the current footings will either be accepted or replaced with new footings. This could take two additional weeks or longer if new footings are required. Other steps in the timeline to open the playground include: Safety audit and code compliance check, Contractor punch list completion, Acceptance of contractor work by the City, Open the playground. We look forward to being able to share this new playground with the community and appreciate your patience as we work through these critical steps to ensure the safety of all playground users. We will keep you informed as we progress through this work. https://arvada.org/explore/open-space-nature/parks-update

Lakecrest Park Update
As you may have seen, our sleepy little park is getting a makeover. Finally, it is underway after six years of planning, Covid, and budget cuts. The City asked the community to participate in a survey last year and vote on their favorite design, and the “St. Bernard” was the winner. It will be exciting for the kids and parents who’ve patiently waited for the old and tired play equipment to be replaced. The approximate completion date is the end of July at this point. 2022 Drop-off Events
Three citywide drop-off events are included in the minimum services that Arvada customers invest in as part of the City's Waste and Recycling Program. All Arvada Residents are invited to participate. Large item drop-off events - Saturday, June 18, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stenger Sports Complex (11200 W. 58th Ave., Arvada, CO 80002). Saturday, July 16, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stenger Sports Complex (11200 W. 58th Ave., Arvada, CO 80002). Saturday, August 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Area Athletic Complex (19500 W. 64th Pkwy., Arvada ,CO 80403). https://arvada.org/residents/services-and-sustainability/trash-and-recycling/bulky-item-drop-off-events. Know before you go: Plan for a long wait. The City team has engaged with internal and external experts to map traffic flow into and out of the event area to help traffic move as smoothly as possible. The goal is to move residents through as efficiently as possible but wait times could be long. Individual customers may take a long time to unload. We will have multiple containers accepting drop offs at the same time and event staff to direct customers. We have a limit on the number of items an individual can bring and will require smaller materials such as construction debris or yard waste to be bagged. Bring proof of residency. This event is open to City of Arvada residents who participate in the City's Waste & Recycling Program at Minimum Service Level or above. You must provide proof of residency at the event either with a water utility bill or a drivers license with your current address. There is a five (5) item limit. We can only accept certain items at this event. Do not bring unacceptable items as you will be turned away. Download a list of acceptable and unacceptable items. If these events don’t work for you, keep in mind that residents who participate in the Waste and Recycling Program with cart service, can schedule on demand curbside pickup for $15 per item. You can schedule curbside pick-ups by calling 720-898-7575.

Regarding the condition of Lakecrest Park
I have been in contact numerous times since June 1st with the City. The condition of the park was concerning even a month ago, so I made inquiries about the maintenance, specifically with the Parks Manager, regarding the neglect and near abandonment. The Manager is aware of the situation and explained that there were irrigation issues in the open field and staffing shortages. In addition, due to an unfortunate accident last year, resulting in the death of a parks worker, the City adopted a new policy requiring a buffer between staff, their equipment, and the waterways. This has resulted in the invasive weeds taking over the creek. The irrigation issues caused the dead turf in many areas of the park. The staffing shortages prevent general maintenance such as new mulch and flowers, weeding the beds, trimming trees, and removing sucklings and dead plant material. After a lengthy discussion about my observations of 9 other parks in the area and their well-maintained appearance, he promised to instruct his crew to provide more time and attention to Lakecrest Park. Hopefully, we will see an improvement soon. HOA President
